While social isolation does not equate to loneliness which, itself, can be very detrimental to physical and mental health, they are often paired. During the pandemic, especially, elder adults are inequitably bearing the burden of isolation.

Improvements to the built environment represent one, under appreciated strategy to overcome social isolation across the lifespan.
